- INVEST in your relationships – ENGAGE in your life, y’all! Find happiness in others’ successes. Just because something great happens for someone else doesn’t mean anything on your end is lacking. I read somewhere that people who have a sense of a social connection with others feel less sadness, depression, and isolation than those that feel alone. Ask someone how they are, slip a card in the mail, send a text “just because”. It’s a win-win.
- Think POSITIVE – you know the old saying, “when life hands your lemons…” Well, sorry to burst some of your Eeyore bubbles, but it’s true. Finding the positive in a sticky situation keeps your stress and blood pressure down. For example, a rock flew from a truck and hit my windshield. There is currently a large “L” crack. This was a crummy deal and it probably scared me more than anything else. But I was safe and the windshield can be replaced.
- FRESH AIR – I think the pollen has pretty much subsided down South, so get outside! Sorry Northerners, but I think you’ve got to wait a little bit longer. A walk outside, for even 10 minutes, can reduce stress and help you clear your head! Find a spot to sit, take some deep breaths and tell yourself that it’s all going to work out. Close your eyes, take a deep breath in, exhale your stress out, and open your eyes. It’s a whole new world with a whole new perspective.
